Professor Phyllis Berger is a Physiotherapist and a qualified Acupuncturist working both in private practice and affiliated to the University of the Witwatersrand.

Elisma first obtained a degree in B.Comm Marketing Management (University of Pretoria), but after years of working with people in different business settings, realized that “something was just missing”.
Becoming a Physiotherapist was not a career change, but a calling that was conceptualized whilst working as a volunteer in a Spinal Cord unit in Johannesburg for ten months. Elisma qualified through the University of Witwatersrand and graduated as the top academic student of her class. She obtained her degree with distinction (Cum Laude). She received numerous awards during her studies, of which the “Raymond & Dart Medal for Physiotherapy for most distinguished candidate over four years of study” and the “Dean’s Merit List for top achievers”, etc.
Passionate about holistic wellness and educating people wherever she goes, joining this practice with its “out of the box” treatment approaches, seemed a natural fit and was for her the ideal setting in which she could passionately express her care in a warm and loving environment. After ten months at the practice, Elisma was offered partnership and hopes to take the essence of the practice’s holistic wellness, commitment and care to further grow this practice into a memorable pain management facility.

She is a highly trained physiotherapist with great expertise in rehabilitation. She assisted the Practice when we joined the Rand Multi-Disciplinary Pain Management Clinic directed by Professor Shipton (Anaesthetist) and used her considerable expertise in helping chronic pain patients. Karin now supervises the rehabilitation of many of our patients who have had severe injuries or chronic back pain. She is often seen walking, trotting or improving the walking ability of patients outside our Practice situated in the grounds of Rochester Place.
