TENS is a transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation that disrupts or inhibits pain signals. This small hand-held device is used to relieve any acute or chronic pain condition. Patients can wear their devices on their specific pain sites while they work and exercise. Many patients feel enabled and achieve complete or consistent levels of pain relief.
TENS units are available for purchase at the Practice.
APS direct current therapy reduces inflammation and swelling and is used for inflammatory diseases such as any form of arthritis, injury to muscle, blood vessel or bone (osteoporotic fractures). Once inflammatory pain is relieved joint movements usually increase and improvement occurs.
STIMPOD is a non-interventional pulsed radio frequency that resets pain signals in nerve tissue, regenerates damaged nerves in chronic pain conditions and in nerve injuries. Disuse of the nervous system (strokes or spinal injuries) may occur and the device may increase nerve activation with possible improvement in muscle strength in some patients.
This treatment targets nerve structures and is used for neuropathic pain as in diabetic neuropathy and neuropathies from different diseases and even from treatment such as chemotherapy that may affect peripheral nerves. The Stimpod is also used for pain in any area by treating the nerve supply to the affected region.
Stimpod is manufactured by South African-based company Xavant. Link to their website here for further information
Panag improves the immune system by increasing anti-inflammatory responses and this has an effect on the glial cells and astrocytes in the brain and spinal cord. This has been observed to impact on severe pain and inflammation from many autoimmune diseases including rheumatoid and non-specific arthritis, lupus among others.
Panag can be used for widespread and chronic pain as in fibromyalgia and hypersensitivity of the nervous system as in complex regional pain syndromes. It is also used in the treatment of infertility and endometriosis.
